Chipperfield

Chipperfield is a charming retreat, surrounded by acres and acres
of heath and woodland, yet well located for access to the M25.
On a fine summer's day this is the perfect English village scene.
A waymarked walk through the Common reveals a massive 400-year-old
Spanish chestnut tree, prehistoric burial mounds, a dew pond,
and the Apostles Pond which is surround by twelve lime trees,
originally planted in 1714. Of the twelve trees, eleven thrived,
the twelfth became known as the Judas tree.

The 16th-century Two Brewers Inn is idylic with a delightful lounge and an intimate
restaurant overlooking the village green. In the 17th-century,
things were not so peaceful when the common was the training ground for
prize boxers. (You may see the occasional fight there even today!).
Parish Council: 01442 822704.
