Sad loss of Ian Macgregor

It’s with sad regret I have to report the death of Bovingdon’s Ian (Robertson) Macgregor (82) on New Years Eve.  Much loved husband, father and grandfather. Funeral Service will be held at St Lawrence Church, Bovingdon, Hertfordshire, on Tuesday, 18th January 2011 at 11.30am. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to RNLI or Help for Heroes.

He is pictured between the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, below, when he was master of ceremonies at Windsor Castle back in  2005.

Nearly 300 Aston Martins and Lagondas together worth more than £30 million took part in a St George’s Day parade at Windsor Castle, where they were met by HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh were joined by Ian MacGregor of the Aston Martin Owners Club. (2005)

Ian was to introduce special guest Sir Stirling Moss, OBE. his long time business partner and friend, at the Walter Hayes Memorial Lecture on Wednesday 19th January 2011 at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall.

Ian and his wife Pam, were frequent visitors to the Green Dragon, Flaunden. His parents lived in Scatterdells Lane, I recall and when married he moved to Chipperfield Road.
He was a very kind and generous man. On hearing my grandson (10) was a avid Aston Martin fan, he volunteered to take us on a ride around the village in one of his two magnificent Astons, a very moving moment for us both.

He died after a short illness. Enquiries to Malcolm Jones & Metcalfe. Tel. 01442 864548.

Beware: it’s a con

POLICE are on the hunt for a man who looks like Peter Kay, following a con trick by a rogue trader.

A Bovingdon resident refused to let the green-trousered man into his house when he claimed to be offering a tree root-cutting service at around 10.30am on December 9.

Half an hour earlier, a man described as ‘podgy’ and wearing blue overalls visited an elderly couple at Highfield Lane, Hemel Hempstead.

The man offered the same service and left with £100 after doing no work. Report information on 0845 33 00 222.
